2018-19 School Budget Vote
Greenwich Central School District residents will vote on a $21,663,160 budget proposal for the 2018-19 school year on Tuesday, May 15, from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Primary Building Gymnasium. Under the proposal a 3.5 percent increase in spending would maintain the K-12 education program for Greenwich students next year. Included in this 3.5% expense budget is a $100,00 Capital Outlay Project. This type of project would be planned in 2018-19, expensed in 2019-20 with building aid returned in 2020-21 with an estimated building aid ratio of 82%. After considering the budget proposal, residents will vote on a $230,000 proposition to purchase two 72-passenger school buses. This would allow the district to replace aging buses and maintain a 10-year replacement cycle, based on the typical lifespan of a school bus. Voters also will elect candidates to fill two seats on the Greenwich Board of Education. Those interested in submitting a board candidate petition should call (518) 692-9542 during the week between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. to receive a candidate packet. The deadline for all candidates' petitions is Monday, April 16. The Board of Education worked with district and school leaders to develop the 2018-19 budget proposal, which was informed by the district's mission, educational goals and fiscal challenges and opportunities.

2018-19 Tax Cap & Levy Information
The "Tax Cap" in New York State
New York places restrictions on how school districts (and municipalities) may increase their tax levies. It requires at least 60 percent voter approval for a school budget if the proposed tax levy increase exceeds a threshold, known as the tax levy limit, which is unique to each district and calculated using a state formula. The 2018-19 tax levy does not exceed the "Cap".
