Summer Backpack Program

Hello Greenwich Community,
This Summer the GYC is announcing our first ever
We are inviting local artists to teach classes, designing daily theatre activities, and
culminating our work into a final community performance in late August.
A little bit about me; I am a clown, I am an artist, and I am a collaborator at heart.
My name is Shane Sczepankowski, and I’m honored to introduce myself as the new Director of the Greenwich Youth Center. While I may be new to this community, I am excited to listen, learn, and preserve what this community has already built.
My journey began in the upstate NY area, born and raised; during high school I acted on the stage, sang in the choir, and won the local pie baking contest. I even attended community college right in Schenectady. After graduating from SCCC I was accepted to a Graduate Program at Mary Baldwin University in Virginia for Shakespeare and Performance. Needless to say, advancing my education was an enjoyable undertaking.
Mary Baldwin is where I would study the majority of my Theatre Arts and where I successfully earned my two Master's Degrees. However, while hard at work in Virginia my heart yearned for my NY roots and with my early college mentor, a few friends, and a spark we created our very own Shakespeare Company, Will Kempe's Players. A company I still proudly co-own 7 years later.
Which brings us back to the here and now: Greenwich Youth Center
"I like this place.
And willingly could waste my time in it."
Cecelia. Act 2 Scene 4 ASYLI
Over the past few weeks, the GYC associates (Emily, Jillian, & Diane) as well as myself and the CCGY Board members have been freshening up the space. Applying a new coat of paint, finding new energy, and creating a renewed commitment to the values that make this place special; safety, inclusion, and emotional well-being.
At every step, our promise remains the same: provide free and professionally structured programs for everyone. Create a place where kids can grab a snack, build a community, and learn to grow together. Our goal is to preserve the heart of the Center while simultaneously expanding what is possible.
This is where you get involved!
For your convenience:
If you have questions, ideas, or just want to say hello, please reach out.
Thank you for the warm welcome. I’m grateful to be here and excited for all that’s ahead.
Our aim is simple.
Spark curiosity, build confidence, and create memories that last well beyond the day.
The Greenwich Youth Center has the potential to shape lives
and not just fill afternoons.

With respect and enthusiasm,
Shane Sczepankowski
GYC Director
