
Witches Indoor T&F Teams Shine at Sectionals

The GCS girls team placed 3 rd out of 18 teams at the Division 4 Indoor Track and Field Sectional Championships, while the boys were 6th.
Arriyana Derby and Kendall Hamilton drove the scoring, with exceptional performances on the track and in the field. Derby won the 55M hurdles in 8.94 seconds, more than a full second ahead of her closest competitor. She was also 4 th in the triple jump (32' 7”). Hamilton demonstrated her speed endurance and strength, placing 3rd in the 300M (45.65) and 2nd in the 600M (1:48.51).
Giulietta Gargano ran a fast 5:35.29 for 6th place in the 1500M and the 4x400M relay team of Finn Murray, Giulietta Gargano, Arriyana Derby and Kendall Hamilton won going away, in 4:33.88.
Peter Chuhta powered his way to a second straight WASAREN and Sectional title in the 25lb weight throw (53' 3”). The League weight throw event was contested at Sectionals, which finalized the team scoring for the League, placing the boys 3rd and the girls 6th.
Other Sectional scorers for the boys include Sam Dixson, who was 2 nd in the 1000M race (2:54.14) and Emerson DuBois, who 6th in the 55M hurdles (9.21), 6th in the long jump (17' 4 1/2”) and 5th in the triple jump.
Jackson Slater, was 4th in the League weight throw and 5th for Sectionals (41' 8 1/2”), while Jamison Slater was 5th in the pole vault (9').
Noah Ives finished 6 th in the 300M and the 4x400M relay team of Ian Laird, Sam Dixson, Levi Murray and Noah Ives placed 3rd in 3:58.54.
The 4x800M relay team of Eisley DuBois, Gunner Alpy, Oliver Smith and Levi Murray was 6th , in 10:30.44).
This meet ended the regular team season on a very bright note for both teams. The next meet will be the State Qualifier, for the highest achieving athletes seeking a berth to the State Championship.
