GREENWICH FBLA CHAPTER ATTENDS District 5 Fall District Meeting-2025
The Greenwich Chapter of FBLA attended the District 5 FBLA Fall District meeting recently in Bolton Landing. GCS JSHS students traveled to the Adirondack Extreme Adventure Course on Wednesday, October 8th to meet with 3 other District 5 chapters including Lake George, Queensbury and Peru. The meeting was hosted by the Lake George Chapter and Role Call included over 80 students.
The meeting was opened by the District 5 Officers at the Adirondack Extreme Adventure Course Welcome center. Students then heard from the Owner of the Course, Jamie Johnson. The owner spoke with the students on how he didn't start out to be an entrepreneur. He went on to explain how he had a great job out of college but after several years he didn't feel that he wanted to continue in that field. He was lucky enough to take some time off and travel and came upon the idea of zipline courses in malls in Brazil. When he got back to the states he did some research and decided that the Adirondacks would be a great place to start an outdoor zipline. After years of planning and looking at properties he was able to start his business. He spoke of how advertising and marketing were challenging when he started and he has had to try multiple forms to hit his market. He also talked about how he is constantly doing maintenance and providing updates to the park for not just safety but to keep the appeal of the courses so people will return. He currently owns several similar parks in the area along with an Adirondack tubing company.
The students then spent a great day enjoying the adventures courses, lunch with other students and then provided a great thank you to our host and guides before heading back. The chapter is looking to have a group outing in the spring along with competing at the State Leadership Conference in Rochester, NY in April. FBLA is an education association with a quarter million students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields. FBLA is the largest business career student organization in the world. The Greenwich Chapter is advised by Christine Belden - if you have a student in grades 7 - 12 that would like to join they should contact her at the school. The Greenwich Chapter participates in the Chamber Halloween Parade, the Lighted Tractor Parade, Breakfast with Santa, Operation Rudolph, and the Whipple City Festival locally for community service and we compete in local, regional and state competitions and national conferences as well as numerous fundraisers to support our endeavors.
