7th grade music is a class for students that do not perform in junior high band or chorus.  It offers the opportunity to understand how music is designed, and where it comes from.  Students use critical listening skills as they are exposed to music from several different categories, eras, and continents.

 

 

Musical Theatre is a high school elective class.  The environment for class is a playful and supportive space where students use improvisation, writing exercises, music, and group feedback to discover their own uniquely powerful stories and find honest ways to express them on stage. Other theatre repertoire will be used as well.

Some specific topics covered include:

·         Transforming ideas/stories into performance

·         Writing exercises to stimulate memory

·         Learning to structure narrative in a compelling way

·         Discovering ways to create spontaneously

·         Overcoming performance anxiety

·         Stage voice and movement

·         Characterization and playing with multiple characters

 

There will be many opportunities to perform throughout the school year and it is encouraged to have the class to be a part of the spring production either as actors or on the production end.
