Zaner-Bloser Letter Formation

We introduce printing in kindergarten in order to avoid reinforcing bad penmanship habits that will need to be corrected in later grades.  Kindergarteners are at the age where they are just beginning to develop the necessary muscular and optical abilities to accomplish writing perfectly-formed letters that are contained properly within the three lines.  Therefore, we try to provide a strong base for our students on which the first grade teachers can build.  Our penmanship goals in kindergarten are to teach the children to identify all of the letters, to hold the pencil correctly, to start at the top when they are forming the letters, and to become familiar with seeing lined paper.
