Homework |
|
Nightly homework is a fact of life in sixth grade. Students are
given a planner in which to record all homework assignments.
Homework assignments are posted on the board in each
classroom. Homework directions are explained several times
each day. Parents
will be contacted if a homework problem develops. At
first, some students may experience difficulty adjusting to the
nightly homework. Eventually, all students become better
skilled at organizing their time and being responsible about
completing all assigned work. |

Grades |
|
Report cards are issued every ten weeks (November, January,
April, and June.) Mid quarter supplemental reports are
mailed home at the midpoint of each quarter. The supplemental
reports provide the student's averages in each subject and
inform the parent of any academic or behavioral difficulties the
child might be experiencing. Sixth grade teachers are in
continuous, close communication about the academic progress of
each sixth grader. |

Discipline |
|
Our school
discipline policy states that no student may infringe upon the
rights of another student to learn or on the teacher to teach.
Physical violence is unacceptable. Rude or disrespectful
language or mannerisms are not tolerated. Individuals who break
these simple rules lose recess privileges and/or spend time
after school. We emphasize with our sixth graders
the importance of personal responsibility for words and actions.
By sixth grade, we feel our students should be able to "play by
the rules." |

Absence from
School |
|
Students who are absent from school are expected to complete all
assignments missed. Teachers will send home the work with
a sibling or neighbor. Parents may also pick up the work
in the main office. Students are given a few extra days to
catch up on work after an absence. Sometimes, afterschool
help is necessary for the child to grasp the concepts taught
during his/her absence. |
