Is this a paid internship? This is not a paid internship...it is only for career exploration. The students receive credit towards graduation.
Who is responsible for insurance on the students? The student is insured under the school's insurance policy during their internship. A certificate of insurance will be provided if requested.
Who is responsible for transportation? Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from their internship site.
What duties and activities can the students participate in? The duties and activities for the internship are set up by the mentor, student and coordinator at the beginning of the internship. Students can perform duties that reflect the learning goals of the intern . Mentors are encouraged to incorporate a balance between participation and observation when working with the student.
How long do the average internships last? The average internship lasts for 10 weeks, for a minimum of 2 hours a day. Students have the option of 1 or 2 semesters for their internships; 4 internship sites for 2 semesters, 2 internship sites for 1 semester.
How are the students graded for this class? Students are graded pass/fail based on several factors. Students must: 1. Meet the hours requirements for the program 2. Complete journals which express what they have experienced at their internships 3. Complete their quarterly project 4. Complete and hand-in required paperwork 5. Attend several required meetings throughout the year-including mentor and coordinator meetings
