Jasmine Woodard is
a gifted, determined scholar-athlete, who has demonstrated
considerable personal initiative in reaching her academic and
athletic heights. Throughout high school, she has poured her talents
and energies into her studies, teams and other wholesome pursuits.
Jasmine ranks in the top 10% of her class, with a 93.76 grade point
average. Her lofty classroom achievement is consistent with her
Regents test performance across a wide range of subjects. Math is a
particular strength and Jasmine is enrolled in Advanced Placement
Calculus and has a three-year Regents math test average exceeding
90.
In
addition to team practices, camps, showcases and more, Jasmine has
worked hard in the weight room and in independent running. She has
no GCS peer in this regard and her results speak for themselves. She
was a two-year captain of the varsity field hockey team, which
finished at 18-2 and made it to the State quarterfinals last fall.
She is the school record holder in assists for a season and career
and is also the all-time Section 2 leader in this category. Jasmine
was also a starter and an all-conference performer on last year’s
Sectional finalist basketball team. Earlier this basketball season,
Jasmine was injured in a varsity basketball game and recently
underwent successful reconstructive knee surgery
Although she is average in size, when Jasmine drives the ball
towards the goal in a field hockey game, she overpowers opponents
and then frequently passes off to others. This seems an appropriate
metaphor for Jasmine’s successes in athletics and school. She
prepares for success, answers challenges, lets no obstacles stand in
her way and elevates those around her.
Jasmine has other interests outside of academics and athletics. She
is a member of the National Honor Society and traveled with the
French Club to France last year. She also works part-time in a local
grocery store and has volunteered at Breakfast With Santa, at an
Autism charity event and has collected non-perishables for the Food
Pantry.
Jasmine
will take her championship qualities to college next fall, ready to
flourish in academics and on an intercollegiate field hockey team.
Among the colleges she is considering are
SUNY Cortland and
Ramapo College of New Jersey.
Jasmine is the daughter of Ken and Paula Woodard, each of Greenwich
and has two siblings: Joselyn Woodard (GCS ‘05) and Jacob Woodard
(’08).
