Ashley Culbertson - Class of 2009

Ashley is a friendly, high-achieving student and a wholesome, enthusiastic participant in life. Her “can-do” optimism, work ethic and good nature have served her school and community well. In addition to “across-the-board” success in classes, she is particularly accomplished in science and business.

Ashley is co-president of the Greenwich Chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) and at a special awards banquet, at the Holiday Inn-Albany, was named “Outstanding GCS Business Student of 2009.” The award and event were sponsored by the Business and Marketing Educators’ Association of the Capital District. Just a few weeks earlier, Ashley had attended the New York State Leadership Conference in Rochester. This year’s theme was “Laying the Foundation for Our Future.” Ashley competed in the Job Interview, Personal Finance and Chapter Display competitions and was a Voting Delegate for the election of State officers. She placed 5th in the Chapter Display Competition and made GCS - FBLA history as the first to place at FBLA State Competitions since GCS began attending five years ago.

More recently, Ashley attended High School Business Day at Adirondack Community College and was part of a group that placed third in ‘Team Display.”

In addition to her achievement in school, Ashley works part-time in a local restaurant and is a mainstay in GCS extra-curricular activities. She was captain of the cheerleading squad and a Relay for Life team. She is also sports editor of the yearbook and secretary of the National Honor Society. Ashley has been a Girl Scout for thirteen years and is a counselor in the Greenwich Summer Youth Program. She has also been a prized volunteer for the Greenwich Fire Department, creating signs for the annual coin drop and cooking with the women’s auxiliary, preparing food for firemen on long calls. She also helps organize, advertise, buy and prepare food for the annual 4th of July picnic in Salem and helps keep inventory of the gear and physical exam status of firefighters.

Outstanding GCS Business Student Award Winner
Ashley’s commitment to high standards and willingness to work with and for others has helped elevate GCS culture and set high standards for underclassmen following in her footsteps.

Ashley is the daughter of Colleen and Duane Culbertson (GCS ‘85), of Greenwich. She has two siblings: Kaitlyn (Class of 2011) and Joshua (2015). Ashley has accepted a full academic scholarship to attend Adirondack Community College in the fall. Among her interests, she is considering a career as a high school science teacher.
