Jared is a polite,
family-oriented young man and the scholar-athlete extraordinaire of
the senior class. He is both a member of the National Honor Society
and a three-sport star in varsity athletics. In an era of sports
personality egotism and “trash-talking,” Jared’s quiet, unassuming
presentation offers a refreshing contrast.
Academics are
important to Jared and he has distinguished himself in the
classroom. His schedule of classes has included four years of math,
two AP courses, University in Schools Spanish and Advanced Physical
Education. He is particularly accomplished in social studies and
languages. His combined State Regents test average in English,
Spanish, Global and U.S. History exceeds 94. In June, he will
graduate with an Advanced Regents Diploma.
At
15-3-1, last fall’s varsity soccer team had the best record in
school history and made it to the Section 2 semi-finals. Jared
supported a cast of other fine players, anchoring the defense from
his “sweeper” position and was named to the first team, All-Wasaren
League.
In basketball,
Jared is a two-year starter and the team’s leading scorer and
rebounder. At the time of this writing, he is the leading scorer in
the Wasaren League. In a recent victory over Schuylerville, Jared
scored 20 points, collected 15 rebounds and blocked 6 shots. Much is
asked from Jared on this otherwise young team. Coach Duke Beck notes
that: “When Jared can score, control the boards and shore up the
defense, we’re tough to beat. He’s a versatile scorer- a good
shooter, and he can drive to the basket or post up.”
Jared
will also be a returning starter on the varsity baseball team. As a
6’ 4” left-hander, he is a natural 1st baseman and hit
.310 in his junior season.
Outside of school
and sports, Jared has particularly enjoyed family travel. Recent
trips have included Hampton Beach (Maine), Florida and his favorite
trip- to Ireland, in the fall of 2007. “The people in Ireland were
really nice and I liked their brogues. The scenery was really nice,
too.”
Jared intends to
study liberal arts in college. He is considering either Adirondack
Community College or the State University of New York at Oneonta.
Jared is the son
of Dawn (GCS ’77) and Paul Kirk (’76). He has one sister, Brittany
Kirk (’03).
