The Business and Marketing Education Department of Greenwich High School has been named one of sixteen "Business and Marketing Education Department of the Year" award recipients for 2003-2004, by the Career and Technical Education Team of the New York State Education Department. Greenwich High School was recognized for its efforts in developing and providing a rigorous and relevant program of study for high school students in the area of business and marketing education. Greenwich's program was especially cited for the new innovative courses, teaching strategies and creative learning experiences it provides to help prepare its student for success in both postsecondary study and future employment in the global economy of the 21st century.
To be eligible for the award, Business teachers, Brenda Lee and
Christine Belden, completed an application and narrative describing department
accomplishments over the previous two years. The Greenwich High School Business
Department has had significant transformation over the past four years. All of
the changes and additions would not have been possible without administration
and community support and the hard work of the two new business teachers,
Christine and Brenda. Christine has been with the department since September
2000 and Brenda has been with the department since September 2002. Along with
over 10 years experience each in the business world, both teachers are New York
State certified in Business & Marketing Education and Work Based Learning (Work
Study/Internship Program).
Some of the accomplishments have been: a dedicated business computer lab, formation of a Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Chapter, opening of a school store, addition of E-Commerce and Small Business Ownership courses, recognition of Outstanding Business Students at regional award dinners and the New York State Business Honor Society. Students have also participated in the ACC Business Day and New York State FBLA State Leadership Conference.
