GREENWICH BUSINESS TEACHER IS AWARDED

NEW BUSINESS TEACHER OF THE YEAR

BY THE BUSINESS TEACHERS’ ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK

Brenda Lee, Business Teacher and Work Experience Coordinator at Greenwich High School was presented with the Business Teachers’ Association (BTA) of New York State New Business Educator of the Year award at the annual BTA conference held on October 27-28, 2005 at the Marriott Long Island Hotel in Uniondale, New York.  The conference attracted over 200 business and marketing teachers from high school and colleges located in New York State.

The “Juilian A. Milkes Outstanding New Business Educator Award” recognizes outstanding contributions to the advancement of business education by a member of BTANYS.  Brenda’s enthusiasm for Business Education has resulted in many accomplishments in just three years of teaching at Greenwich High School and makes her deserving of this award.  At Greenwich, Brenda has served as advisor to FBLA, the school newspaper, the class of 2009 and the yearbook.  The FBLA chapter was established by Brenda during her second year of teaching.  In 2003 space was renovated for a school store, which is operated by FBLA and the Small Business Ownership class, through a business plan that Ms. Lee’s Small Business Ownership class developed and presented to the district in 2002.

Brenda works closely with the community in developing her programs. She has taken approximately twenty students to the Adirondack Community College Job Fair the past few years; several students have been offered jobs as a result. Students also attend the Adirondack Community College Business Education Day and have been successful in winning competitions.  The FBLA group assists the Greenwich Historical Association with their newsletter and participates in many local and school activities—concession stand for girls’ basketball games, FFA annual convention concession stand and Whipple City parade to mention just a few.

In her classroom she is always instituting creative, innovate approaches—using The Apprentice in Business Ownership, beginning a Wardrobe Wednesday to teach proper business attire, using a classroom theme to promote positive attitudes (It’s Just Another Day in Paradise), and more.  Ms. Lee teaches Business Law, Small Business Ownership, Computer Applications and the Work Experience/Internship program.

Besides her classroom and FBLA work, Brenda serves as Secretary for the Adirondack Business Educators, the New Member Coordinator of the Greenwich Teachers’ Association, and is an active member of BTANYS.

In 2002, BTANYS awarded Brenda their annual Business Education scholarship, and in 2004 the Greenwich High School Business Department was recognized as one of New York State’s Business Education Departments of the Year by the New York State Education department.

Greenwich Central School is pleased to have Ms. Lee as a member of their school community.
